Aquilla Morgan Obituary

 

God saw it best to call Sister Aquilla Morgan home Wednesday, September 21st, 2022. She will forever be remembered as not being an Ordinary Woman but an Extraordinary Woman who lived to Impact and Impress with her service and love to All who knew her. The arrangements of her extraordinary life are as follows. Wake: Friday September 30, 2022, from 4-6 PM at St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church Parrish, Florida. Her Homegoing and Celebration of Life is Saturday October 1, 2022, at 11AM at St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church Parrish, Florida. Rev. Dr. Fletcher Lawson Jr. Pastor. Minister Ricky Stephens, Officiating. Interment to follow Parrish Cemetery. Mask is Required at Funeral and Wake Service.

Mrs. Aquilla Morgan was born in Parrish, Florida on November 28th, 1941, to the late Carrie Bell Jackson and Charlie Jackson. She is preceded in death by her Grandmother Nina Covington McNeal, her Aunt Rachel Jackson (My Pie) who raised her. Beloved brother Monroe Jackson, and her brother Horace Dozier Sr. She made a loving home in Wimauma, Florida for over 60 years. She was the proud mother to her four beautiful daughters Kathy Morgan, Eugenia Johnson, Sheila Helms (Dewayne,) Her Baby Abreil Morgan (Jason,) and like a son, her nephew William Jackson (Felicia.) 

She was the best grandmother in the world and her grandchildren were her pride and joy! She leaves to honor and cherish her forever, Eugene Troy Morgan, Latoya Lovett (Anthony,) Lenishia Johnson (Michael,) and Ambrose Helms. Her great-grandchildren Shianne Simpson, Shardai Sallye, Jahiem Gordon, Shanyah Sallye, Kelvin Lyons Jr, Jahleah Aquilla Eniel Gordon, and Olivia Star Garrett who loved their “Big Mama.”  

She leaves her love to her sister Rosetta “Red” Dozier and her brother Norman Jackson. She was the best and favorite Auntie to her nieces and nephew, Glenda Jackson, Pamela Dozier, Gracie Murrell (John Sr.,) Theresea Johnson (Rick,) Annette Dozier, Jannette Dozier, Horace Dozier Jr. (Cecilia.) Her God children Darren Lowry, Joquista Mazon and Carmen Floyd. Her great nephew Bryce Stewart and community son Paul Maple. Her lifelong friend Daisy Cooper, special cousin Janie Simmons, and host of loving family members especially cousins, treasured friends, former colleagues, students, church family, and beloved Senior Women Ministry.

Sister Aquilla Morgan was educated in schoolsin Manatee County and was a graduate of Lincoln Memorial High school. She continued her education at Hillsborough County Jr. College, University of South Florida for her Bachelor’s, and Master of Arts in Education from the University of Tampa. She graduated with honors from both universities and is a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor society.

Sister Aquilla Morgan had a successful teaching career for Hillsborough County Public Schools for 43 years at Wimauma Elementary. She was the first black employee and a pillar of Education in Wimauma, Florida for generations. She was a member at St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church in Parrish, Florida and held the longest membership at her church as a member for 71 years.

Sister Morgan served as President of the District Junior Women for approximately 7 years. She served as President of the Senior Women’s Ministry of Mount Pilgrim M.B. Association and as First Vice President of the Progressive Missionary and Education Baptist State Convention of Florida, Inc. for more than 25 years. In 2012 Berean Bible College and Seminary bestowed upon her an honorary Doctorate Degree for her service and commitment to Christ.

“What only you do for Christ will last” is something that Aquilla lived by and served him until he called her name. She walked in every room from local to state and national programs and would capture your attention before she spoke a word wearing the most beautiful, elegant, sharpest dress and most beautiful hat in the world. She would not spare any expense when it came to her love of fashions especially her hats and clothing. She was not an Ordinary Woman but an Extraordinary Woman.

Sister Morgan favorite quote “If I can help somebody as I pass this way, then my living is not in vain,” and she lived it daily. She will truly be missed by her loving family, treasured friends, great colleagues, students, and her church family.
