Audrey Moreland Obituary

Our Beloved and sweet Audrey Joyce Moreland was born on January 12th, 1945, to the Late Elder Willie Mayes Sr. and Agnes Fulton Mayes in Sarasota, Florida

She was the beloved wife of James Moreland III for 18 years, although they later divorced, they remained friends & shared four beautiful daughters together. She was a member of New Zion Primitive Baptist Church, where she song in the choir and served on several different committees.  She later joined Trinity Christian Fellowship Center, under the direction of her nephew, Reverend R. Vincent Smith III. While there, she started the Senior Choir, she was over the Pastoral Aide Committee and hosted monthly Prayer Breakfasts for all to attend, providing & preparing the food herself, since she loved to cook. She later relocated to Mcdonough GA where she joined Tabernacle of Praise Church International, under the direction of Pastor Timothy J. McBride. While there, she was an active member of the Seasoned Saints Ministry and attended Wednesday Bible Study religiously. She loved her Seasoned Saints family.

She attended Booker Elementary, Booker Middle and Gibbs School of Business in St Petersburg, FL, where she graduated from Cosmetology in 1977. She later became the first black hairstylist to integrate a white salon (located inside Maas Brothers Dept Store) in Sarasota, FL. She aspired for more, and became a Business Owner of her own Salon located on MLK Blvd. She later went on to open Total Elegance Hair Studio with her daughter, Cindy Moreland and was there for 22 years. Shehosted a myriad of Fashion shows, fed the homeless and gave back to the community every chance she got. She was a Woman of GOD, a people lover, a woman of grace, compassion and great conversation. She never met a stranger and always made everyone she met, feel special.  She selflessly relocated to Georgia in 2011 to help care for her daughter during her cancer diagnosis, and remained in GA up until now.

While in Georgia, she was recognized as a staunch supporter and Vice-President of Thriving & Surviving Breast Cancer Support Group Foundation, a 501(c)3 Non-profit Organization that her and her daughter started, that has given back to over 300 individuals affected by Breast Cancer, and to the children of those affected by cancer. She gave of herself selflessly to anything that she was involved in.  She was Loved and cherished by many as she is the rock of our family.

In her leisure time she loved talking on the phone with her children, siblings and friends. She enjoyed giving fashion shows, riding back & forth from Georgia to Florida on the Megabus. She also enjoyed going to church on Sundays and going to dinner afterwards. Her favorite things to do were planning gatherings, shopping & having good times with her kids & grandkids.

Preceding her in transition were her parents, Rev. Willie Sr. and Mother Agnes Fulton Mayes; Brothers Louis and Johnnie Pecox, Elder Willie Mayes Jr. and Sisters, Luvenia Gibson; Doris Quinn Allen and Janice Robinson.

She leaves behind four daughters: Carla Moreland (Joseph Palmer), Rhonda Williams (Calvin), Cindy Moreland-Allen (Lawrence), & Regina Moreland.
