Avon Poag Obituary

Mr Avon Poag departed this life on May 9, 2021.  A public viewing will be held on Friday, May 21, 2021 from 5 PM to 7 PM at Westside funeral home 204 7th St., West Palmetto FL 34221.  Funeral service will be held 1:00pm on  Saturday, May 22, 2021 At Happy Gospel Church 1915 53rd Ave., East Bradenton FL 34203.  Interment will take place at Sarasota National Cemetery.

Avon C. Poag was born May 17, 1959, to the late Albert C Poag and the late Elouise Franklin, in Baltimore, MD. He was one of 10 siblings. Avon was educated in and received his High School Diploma from Jefferson High School in Brooklyn, NY.  After high school, Avon joined the United States Army.

After the completion of service to his country and the next phase of his journey into adulthood, Avon relocated to Bradenton, FL.  Avon eventually began working at Tropicana and decided this was where he would be planted. He blossomed and flourished here were his roots ran deep.  Those roots are evident in the lives he touched and the relationship he nourished with all mankind.Avon was a dedicated member of Suncoast Elite, a organization committed to serving the community.

Avon was sincere in all of his interactions with others. People were drawn to his charm, charisma, smile and wit.  He was aloving yet protective father, brother, and friend, never being judgmental always accepting and understanding.  He was the life of party wherever he went, and he never met a stranger. If you just met him 30 minutes ago, it might as well be 30 years, that’s just who he was.  Avon loved life and the people in his life.  In his love of life, it was hard for him to keep still. If music was playing, he was dancing.

Avon was preceded in death by his parents, Albert C. Poag and Elouise Franklin…… (are there other ones)
