Donnie Gilbert

 Donnie Gilbert A Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Uncle and Friend Donnie Gilbert, affectionately known as "Donnlee," was born on August 3, 1949, to Grace T. Gray and Frank Gilbert (Frances) in Jacksonville, Florida. He departed from this world on November 6, 2023. Donnie's life was a testament to service, love, and faith.

Donnie began his educational journey in the Duval County school system and upon graduation, felt the call to serve his country. He bravely joined the Marine Corps, where he dedicated himself to the principles of honor and duty.

Faith played a crucial role in Donnie's life from an early age, and he accepted Christ into his heart, later being baptized at Mount Ararat Baptist Church. His commitment to his faith continued throughout his life, and he faithfully served as a Trustee at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Bradenton, Florida.

After his military service, Donnie embarked on a career with the City of Jacksonville, where he excelled in his professional endeavors. Donnie met Susan Davis while working at the City of Jacksonville and in 1984, they married, and together they shared a life filled with love, companionship, and mutual support.

In 1991, Donnie and Susan relocated to Bradenton, Florida, where Donnie pursued his entrepreneurial dreams. He established "Donnlee Copiers," a testament to his determination, work ethic, and entrepreneurial spirit.

Donnie was not only dedicated to his work but also to spreading joy to everyone he encountered. His warm smile and compassionate nature endeared him to all who were fortunate enough to know him. His legacy of kindness and generosity will continue to inspire those who were touched by his presence.

Donnie was preceded in death by his mother, Grace T. Gray (Terry), his sons, Darryl Gilbert and Damen Gilbert, and his sister-in-law Charlene Cromartie (Jimmy). While we mourn his passing, we celebrate a life well-lived and a legacy of love that will endure in our hearts forever.

Donnie leaves behind a loving family to cherish his memory. He is survived by his devoted wife of 39 years, Susan Gilbert, his sisters, Santa H. Thompson (James), Zandra Johnson (Percy), and brother, Kenneth Gray. He will be fondly be remembered by his children, Dijonette Gilbert, LaTonya Gilbert, Kishia Kimbrough, Duane Gilbert (Janelle), Jaelyn Burks (Phillip), Donnie M. Gilbert, and Donielle Gilbert. Additionally, he is survived by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and his furry companion, Maxwell “Maxie” Smart.
