Johnnie David Calhoun, Sr. was born to the late Joe Nathan and Lelar Bell Calhoun on June 27, 1930 in Uriah, Alabama.
Johnnie was employed by Holloway Construction for 16 years and then employed by Tropicana where he retired after 27 years of service.
Johnnie married Lula Mae Cheaves on January 1, 1955, five children were born to this union. Johnnie was baptized and became a member of the Church of Christ, many years ago and remained faithful until his death. He was an active and devoted Christian who loved the Lord and conducted himself in the true aspect of what a Christian should be. Some of Johnnie’s hobbies were fishing, gardening and cooking.
Johnnie was preceded in death by “the love of his life” his wife, Lula; Son, Gary; father and mother, three sisters and three brothers.
Johnnie is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Rountree (Marshall), and Gwendolyn Long (Desmond); two sons, Johnnie, Jr., (Pearl) and Bruce; one sister, Rosemary Tibbs; One brother, James Calhoun (Carrie); two Sisters-in-law, Iona Gavin and Betty Al -Ghani (Karim); Five brothers-in-law, Alex Cheaves, Sr., (Veronica), Thaddeus Cheaves, Sr., (Tiki), Richard Cheaves, Sr. (Mattie), Willie Cheaves, Sr. and Michael Cheaves, Sr.; A host of grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, and Great Great Grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended children and grandchildren. Richard Cheaves, Sr. was Johnnie’s best friend. Enoch and Janie Williams were dear friends of Johnnie and Lula.
