Olga Brooks-Burney Obituary

Olga Vanzetta Brooks Burney was the only child born to Deacon Charles A. Brooks and Deaconess Earnestine Hicks Brooks on September 4, 1953, in Bradenton, Florida. She departed this earth on September 18, 2020.
Olga was always the family organizer of holidays and birthday celebrations. She loved parties and family get-togethers. Her favorite outing was Red Lobster during the “Endless Shrimp Feast.”
Olga was educated in Manatee County Schools. She was presented as a debutante by Royal Sara-Mana Club, Inc. in 1970. After graduating from Southeast High School in 1971, she attended Florida Memorial University for a short while. Olga was raised in a religious home and attended St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church where she was baptized by the late Rev. Leon King. She sang in the church choir, served on the Adult Usher’s Board. Olga put her talents to work in the church’s kitchen where she honed her cooking skills and was a member of East Bradenton Women’s Club.
Olga loved people and had many friends. She was employed by the Sarasota Sheriff Department and GTE (later Verizon) phone company and retired after 25 years of service. After retirement, she became a Manatee County school bus driver and loved and enjoyed her students who affectionately called her “Miss Olga.” Many knew Olga over the last 30 years in her work on weekends as a funeral home attendant at Westside Funeral Home.” O.B.” (as she was called at Westside), loved and adored George, Rick and the other staff members.
Olga departed this earth on September 18, 2020, after battling Covid-19 for 77 days. She was healed by the good Lord up above. She fought a good fight, but God stepped in and helped her win the battle by taking her home to be with Him.
Olga was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Earnestine Brooks.
Olga’s passing brings grief and sorrow to her two sons, Orion Brooks, Sr. and Justin Burney, adopted brother, Willie Howard Marshall (Patricia), ten grandchildren: Nicole, Zorion, Orion, Jr., Torion, Orianna, Dezirhanna, Tyrion, Amauria, A’riah, and Brion, one aunt, Doris Hicks of White Plains, NY, first cousins: Sandra Jenkins, Larry Hicks, Dr. Patricia Grimsley, Joann Surrency, Jacqueline Lewis, Harold Jones, Bill Grimsley, Valerie Robinson, Vernetta McMillan, James McMillan, Vandalia Jones, Leslie Mebane, Keith McMillan, Marcel Grimsley, Ralph Hicks, Mykel Hicks, many second cousins, and a host of other sorrowing relatives and friends.
