Patricia Nelson Obituary

Patricia Nelson of Charlotte, NC and formerly of Palmetto transitioned on January 4, 2021.  Viewing is 6-8 P.M. on Friday January 15, 2021.  Funeral Service is 11 A.M. Saturday January 26, 2021. Viewing and Funeral will be at Westside Funeral Home 204 7th St W., Palmetto, Florida 34221. Burial will be in Ellenton.

Patricia Ann Nelson was born on August 11, 1947, in Palmetto, Florida to Katie Johnson Price and Henry Smith Sr. She grew up with a particular fondness for her siblings, of which she was the eldest. Patricia attended Lincoln Memorial Elementary and Lincoln Memorial High School in Palmetto, Florida. Her first daughter and longtime companion, Angela, was born in 1963 and was joined shortly after by her first son, Anthony, in 1964. Meeting David Nelson, Patricia relocated to Rochester, New York, in the mid-60s. She married and had Jeffrey in 1967 and Kimberly in 1971. In Rochester, she began a career with the Eastman Kodak Company, working as a factory supervisor for over 30 years. Friends recall fondly how she took her role as provider very seriously and established a strong and loving household. In 2005, she returned to the Bradenton-Palmetto area to be closer to her mother and sister. She was joined by her daughters Kimberly and Angela and her grandson, Errol, in this new chapter of her life. Family and friends will always remember how she kept in touch via social media, often posting morning motivational messages to inspire all those around her. She was incredibly fond of television, movies, and music.  Her favorite shows included Days of Our Lives, Bold and the Beautiful, The Young and the Restless. Her favorite artist was Luther Van Dross.

It was in her steadfast perseverance through many illnesses that Patricia’s kindness truly showed. She never let chronic pain or illness break or bend her spirit. It was with great comfort that her family knows that she is beyond the point of further pain or illness. She remained true in her unwavering faith in our Lord. In her final months, she relocated to North Carolina with Angela and Kimberly, where she was able to spend one final holiday season surrounded by family and close friends.

She transitioned peacefully on the morning of January 4, 2021. She is preceded in death and welcomed in Heaven by her mother, Katie Johnson-Price. She is succeeded in death by a large and loving family. Her father; Henry Smith Sr.. Her sister; Carolynn Smith-Washington, her brothers; Jihad Faarooq, Michael Smith, and David Smith. Her children; Angela R. King, Anthony L. King (Brandi), Jeffrey C. Nelson, and Kimberly A. Nelson-Colon (Vincent). She raised four children of her own, but was a mother to many, including Deborah, David Jr., Wanda, and Ronnie. She leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Cecilee, Chantel, Danielle, Errol, Troy, Anthony, Ashley, Ta-jaye, Jayiana, Sir, Christopher, and Jordan, and two great-grandchildren: Pria and Jayvion.

She will be greatly missed, cherished, loved, and remembered by all who knew her.
