Sherrye “Coach” Simpson
Sherrye was born August 31, 1948 in Bradenton, FL.
She was the 10th child born to the late Harry and Mary Presha
Sherrye affectionately known as “Coach” attended Memorial Elementary and graduated from Lincoln Memorial High School in 1966. Upon completion of high school she attended Bethune Cookman College, in Daytona, FL where she pledged and became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. whileearning a degree in Physical Education. She was awarded hermaster’s degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. Being obedient and heading the call to ministry, Sherrye desired to give God the best of her service, therefore she enrolled in Berean Christian College and Seminary where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Christian Education.
She is most known for her service of 28 years as a Physical Education teacher at Southeast High School, where she coached girls’ softball for several years. She demanded excellence and set the bar high, everyone knew to come to her class on time and correct (wrinkled clothes were not an option), looking good was only half of the key to success.
Sherrye accepted Christ at an early age at St. John MB Church- Memphis and later united with Bells Temple COGIC. Afterseveral years God called her to return to her roots at St. JohnMB where she served faithfully in both the Sunday School and Women’s Ministry.
On May 14,1971 two became one, when she united in Holy Matrimony with David Lee Simpson Sr.
She was preceded in death by her true love, David Lee Simpson, son: Eric B Simpson, sisters: Clemmie Dixon and DorothyHouston of Bradenton, FL, and brothers: Harold and James Presha of Palmetto, FL.
She leaves to cherish her lasting memories, a loving and devoted son Keith (Sheila) Simpson of Palmetto, David Lee Simpson Jr. Bradenton, FL; daughters Winnie Simpson Tampa, FL and Stephanie Simpson, Palmetto, FL; daughter-in- law, Faye Simpson, Coconut Creek, FL; 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; sisters Mildred Duncan, Bradenton, FL, Lilla Davis-Mays, Palmetto, FL and Loretta (Richard) Lipp, Cherry Hill, NJ; brothers Walter “Mickey” Presha (Bettye), Palmetto, FL and Willie Richardson, Orlando, FL ; sister in laws: Patricia Simpson ,Rosemary Simpson Mosely, and Matilda Simpson, Palmetto , FL , Carolyn Simpson Thomas, Bradenton, FL and Carolyn Simpson Moore, Newark, NJ and a host of nieces ,nephews, cousins and friends.
